And Firefox Tutor is back! Time to recover from this hiatus.

I knew that Firefox would remember your opened tabs and windows if it crashed, or if you had to restart after installing an extension. What I didn't know is that you can easily set Firefox to save your session whenever you exit, not just when your computer crashes.

In the past, I've used an extension called SessionSaver to make Firefox open all of the windows and tabs from last time I closed the browser. Then I stumbled across an option in Firefox labeled 'When Firefox starts', and learned that Firefox 2 now has this built in.

You can find this option by going to 'Tools > Options' (on a Windows PC), and clicking the 'Main' tab at the top of the Options window. 'When Firefox starts' is in the section labeled 'Startup'. You have three choices to select from:

  • Show my home page
  • Show a blank page
  • Show my windows and tabs from last time

To have Firefox remember your tabs and windows next time you exit, select 'Show my windows and tabs from last time'. The SessionSaver extension does have a few more options, but functionally I've found Firefox's Session Restore to work every bit as well.

Sorry, no screenshots this time guys, but this should be pretty straight-forward. I hope this tip works out for you, and thanks for visiting Firefox Tutor!
